Frequently asked questions
What are fractional shares?
Fractional shares let you buy a portion of a single stock — for example, €50 of a stock trading at €2,000 per share. This makes high-priced stocks accessible without needing to invest a full share's worth. Not all brokers offer this, and those that do vary significantly in how many stocks are eligible and what minimum investment they set.
Do I receive dividends on fractional shares?
Most brokers that offer fractional shares do pass through proportional dividends — if you own 0.1 of a share and it pays €10/share, you'd receive €1. The key exception is brokers that hold fractional positions as a synthetic product (a contract rather than actual shares) — in that case, dividend treatment depends on the broker's contract terms, not the company's dividend policy.
Are fractional shares available for ETFs too?
ETF fractional investing is a separate question from stock fractionals — and availability varies. Some brokers that offer fractional stocks don't extend that to ETFs, while others allow fractional ETF purchases through savings plans (Sparpläne) even if not for one-off purchases.
